Who We Are

May Theatres (1984) Limited is a family owned and operated movie theatre company with locations spanning from Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, to Castlegar, British Columbia. We pride ourselves in bringing great entertainment to the communities we serve. Visit us today to find some of the best motion picture entertainment in Western Canada. Our owners grew up in this industry, boasting more than 70 years of experience.

May Cinema

Our HISTORY 

1946- Founded by Philip Tanner May in Wainwright, Alberta who started with the Elite Theatre 

1952- Philip Tanner May built the Alma Theatre in Wainwright, Alberta which is still owned and operated by May    Theatres today

1963- Philip Harry May (son of Philip Tanner) and founder of Landmark Cinemas of Canada purchased Coombs & Hudson properties in Lloydminster, Elite Theatre, Rio Theatre and the C& H Drive-In. He renamed the Old Theatre in Downtown Lloydminster the May Theatre 

1976- May Theatres built May Cinema 6. It started as a twin screen complex. In 1984 it was upgraded to a triple, a 5-plex in 1987 and in 2004 it was made into a 6-plex Cinema

1985- Colin May (son of Philip Harry) who was in the theatre business in Ontario and Saskatchewan added those theatres to the May Theatres circuit. The Grand Square Cinema is opened in Cold Lake, Alberta

2003- Kootenay Centre Cinemas is opened in Castlegar, British Columbia 

2019- Colin May (current President) and Anita May (former first class projectionist)'s children Noel and Sydney May join the company becoming the 4th Generation of the Mays to operate May Theatres
